Cleaning & Maintenance
It is of paramount importance to keep your equipment clean and sanitized, not only for health reasons but for the longevity of your QuikBox. Before its first use, and immediately after each use, we recommend following these steps to keep your QuikBox in tip-top shape.
Here’s a list of the supplies you’ll need: (link to items we have available online)
- A Clean Empty Cornelius Keg: This is used to hold your cleaner, water, and sanitizer being pushed through your QuikBox unit
- 1 Quart Spray Bottle: Sanitizer mix to spray down exterior lines, kegs & disconnects
- PBW Cleaner: Powdered Beer Wash is eniro friendly & alkaline cleaner. DO NOT use dish soap or other household soaps. 1 tablet per 1 gallon of warm water.
- StarSan Sanitizer: high foaming biodegradable acid based cleaner
You never want any of your cocktail to sit inside the QuikBox without being used for extended periods of time. Again, your QuikBox must be cleaned immediately after each use to avoid bacteria growth.
Cleaning
Step 1: Close all CO2 valves and remove both the gas and liquid disconnects from your Cornelius style kegs. If you are serving a still cocktail, pull up on the pressure relief valve (PRV) depressurize.
Step 2: Fill a clean corny keg with 1 gallon of warm water, then add in 1 oz of PBW (or 1 tablet) , close the lid and shake.
Step 3: Reattach the liquid and gas disconnects to the cleaning keg. Turn on your CO2 to pressurize the cleaning keg.
Step 4: Pull the faucet open and let the PBW work its way through the QuikBox. Once you see the PWB solution coming out of the faucet, close it and let it sit for 20 min.
Step 5: Repeat steps 1-4 with the other tap on your QuikBox and remove the disconnects from the cleaning keg when finished.
Step 6: While the PWB soaks, use your 1 quart spray bottle filled with StarSan solution and a clean towel to wipe down all your lines & disconnects. The manufacturer’s recommended ratio for StarSan is 1 oz to every 5 gallons of hot water
Rinsing / Flushing Out Cleaner
Step 1: Remove the pressure from the cleaning keg by pulling up on the PRV and remove the lid. Dump out the remaining PBW, rinse the keg and fill the clean keg with a gallon of hot water.
Step 2: Attach the Regulator Assembly by lifting the sliding collar on the grey quick disconnect and pushing down on the “IN” post until you hear a click. Set the pressure on the regulator to 3-5 psi to start and turn the knob on the regulator to on. You should hear CO2 filling into the keg. Adjust serving pressure as desired. If you over-pressurize the keg, simply pull up on the pressure relief valve on the keg lid to release.
Step 3: Reattach the liquid and gas disconnects to the cleaning keg, turn your gas source on, and flush your entire QuikBox system, ridding itself of all the cleaner.
Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3 other tap immediately. Do not allow PWB to dry on any stainless steel components.
Sanitizing & Purging
Step 1: Remove the pressure from the cleaning keg by pulling up on the PRV and remove the lid. Dump out the remaining PBW, rinse the keg and fill with 2 gallons of hot water and 14oz Star San.
Step 2: Reattach the liquid and gas disconnects to the cleaning keg, turn on your gas source, and flush out all of the water with sanitizer. Repeat the process on both taps, ensuring that the lines are full of sanitizer. Leave the sanitizer in the lines for 2 minutes.
Step 3: StarSan is a no-rise sanitizer, so you can let the cleaning keg run dry after your last tap, leaving the CO2 to purge the coils of your QuikBox.
Disassembly & Storage
Step 1: Remove the liquid and gas disconnects from the cleaning keg. Remove the liquid lines from the shanks and hang to dry. Remove the regulator from the bulk CO2 source and put in a safe place.
Step 2: Using the cooler handles, dump the ice and prep for storage. Rub down the outside of your Quikbox with a damp cloth with common kitchen cleaner and/or stainless steel cleaner.
Step 3: Store your QuikBox in a dry area with the lid slightly open to prevent mold.
FAQs
There are variables at play here, such as serving pressure (PSI), full kegs or not, temperature of CO2 tank, etc. That being said, the conservative answer is that you should expect to be able to pour 12-18 full 5 gallon corny kegs.
Using CO2 to dispense cocktails with not carbonate your cocktails. If your cocktails already have carbonation, using CO2 will help preserve the carbonation while serving. The nature of using the QuikBOX® is for events/parties/functions that will serve many cocktails over the time of said function, meaning that use of CO2 gas to dispense is fine. Force carbonation of cocktails is a different subject matter altogether, which we can help with as well! If you are wanting to dispense with Nitrogen with your QuikBOX®, simple switch out the CO2 regulator that comes with the QuikBOX® Kit with a Nitrogen primary regulator. The QuikBOX® is very similar to a Jockey Box that beer folks use. However, the QuikBOX® Kit has all 304 stainless steel components, is set up specifically for use with Cornelius style kegs, and includes everything you need to serve cold, refreshing cocktails to large crowds. We thought of everything in this kit, down to our custom coolers for the kegs, to make sure that you don’t have to “build your own” solution and can focus on your business, not dispense. We also offer customization of the QuikBOX® to highlight your brand or company in the best light at all events!
It is of paramount importance to keep your equipment clean and sanitized, not only for health reasons but for the longevity of your QuikBOX®. Immediately after each use, attach your cleaning keg of PBW (and after, Star San sanitizer) liberally through the entire unit. Let the PBW sit in all lines for 20 minutes. Flush with Star San sanitizer. Disassemble the QuikBOX® in reverse of assembly. Hang up your Liquid beverage lines to dry. Remove the ice and water from the cooler. Store the QuikBOX® with the top slightly ajar to allow sufficient airflow to dry.
The QuikBOX® made by QuikTap® is the best way to pour high volumes of your beverage cold while not diluting it with ice. In this video you will learn how to unpack, connect the self closing faucets, liquid lines and gas lines and get pouring portably in no time. This setup is built specifically for 5 gallon Cornelius style kegs.
